Online guitar auction - 8th and 9th Dec.
Knowing that there are some posters on here that share my interest in electric guitars and associated stuff, I would like to point you towards a Gardiner Houlgate (UK) online auction taking place on the 8th and 9th December (link below).

Lots of interesting stuff over the two days, including a fair bit of kit previously owned and used by The Alarm if that is of interest. There are a few other artist-owned bits too.

I do have 20 or so lots in there myself, so please bid generously and often on anything that takes your fancy (and I might therefore benefit from). 😊

Eyethankyew!

That sounds familiar!

I have a keyboard setup, but whenever I go near it I seem to end either playing Jump, Watcher of the Skies or Subdivisions.

I think we'll all be deluded with wattage for too long. My main amps are now 40w at their max, and I often use the facility to reduce this to 20, 5 or even 1w at home.

Still plenty loud enough.

I know what you mean Bungo.
Pedals and synths are my Achilles heal despite the fact I am a one handed keyboard player (thank heavens for sequencers).
I have only a few amps as only play bass live apart from open night things where I have done ukulele, rhythm, chained volcas and cigar box guitar stuff. I love my Orange micro dark - it might be only 20 watts but it 20 watts of pure evil if you stick more gain in front of it and is easily loud enough for medium sized room with a decent cab.

Good stuff!

I like the idea of this (which is why I bought the Blackstar Beam), but as someone that still occasionally plays live, I really need to practice through the stage setup, otherwise I forget what to press and when etc.

Thankfully the H&K amps I use have variable wattage settings so you can keep everyone sane and play at home at a tolerable volume level.

It's realy good as an amp, but where it gets better is you can bluetooth an Ipad or other device with the Spark and it can generate effects and mimic amps such as Marshall etc. Might be a bit gimicky, but fun to use!

I've heard of it but never played with one.

I had something similar-ish in the Blackstar ID:Core Beam, which I hardly used so I just sold it!

How is the Positive Grid amp?

And amps, and cabinets, and effects etc etc...

It's a bloody sickness! πŸ™„

More guitars then!

Re: Online guitar auction - 8th and 9th Dec.
Pretty much.

Nothing went for dramatically more or less than I was expecting so the final total was certainly in the right ballpark.

The main thing is that nearly a Transit van full of unused house ballast has now gone, and made space for the next batch of unnecessary stuff that I will inevitably acquire. 😁

Hey ho!

Did you get what you wanted? Did everything sell? I seem to recall you had quite a large colelction in the auction?

Re: Online guitar auction - 8th and 9th Dec.
FYI

A couple of people were interested in the levels of the valuations before the auction.

I added up the low valuations and the high and took the mean of these two figures. Then I added up the hammer price of my lots.

Altogether they realised 87% of the mean estimated price. OK with that.

Thanks for the tip bungo.
I do have a couple that could do with an upgrade and the Warpig sounds just the job.

Epiphone have done and still do some great guitars. One of the ones I sold was a G400. It was a very good guitar but I couldn't get on with the SG geometry - kept trying to pick the bridge.

Bought a lovely Epiphone J-200EC Studio Vintage Sunburst a few months ago and was chuffed to see Harrison playing the same model in the Beatles doco last night, lovley geetar I must say.

I'd say most of what I've ever bought has been mostly on looks. Sometimes it works out to be a good fit too!

Have you looked at Bare Knuckle pickups? They are certainly the fashionable 'mean' pickup currently? 😁

Re: Online guitar auction - 8th and 9th Dec.
Reviews mainly, I was looking for ones that work for extreme metal rhythm and they certainly do the trick.
The bridge pickup sounds really bright clean as well and it sings with a little bit of reverb.
They also look mean (yes I am a child).

Fair enough.

Any particular reason why you went for an EMG rather than maybe a Seymour Duncan or DiMarzio that I suppose would be the first port of call for most shopping for a passive pickup?

Didn't want any more wood gouged out of the body. The trem was enough.

Scorch - Ginger also gave a guitar to Cardiacs' Tim Smith (Ibanez Iceman) that Tim used at gigs for years.

I should say 'can be quite moody' but in general- never with people/fans who come up to talk to him.
